Nightworks on Northbourne Avenue from Wednesday 30 September

Released 29/09/2020

Road users are advised that nightworks will take place on the northbound lanes of Northbourne Avenue between Macarthur Avenue and Mouat Street on Wednesday 30 September and Thursday 1 October 2020.

Pavement rehabilitation work is underway on the northbound lanes of Northbourne Avenue between Macarthur Avenue and Mouat Street. These works have so far included the removal/repair of existing road pavement, repairs to kerbing and stormwater drains and placement of new road pavement.

We will now carry out the final stage of road resurfacing.

Timing and location of the works

These works will be carried out as nightworks between 8 pm and 6 am on Wednesday 30 September and Thursday 1 October 2020 (weather permitting). In the event that these works cannot be carried out as planned, they will continue on the following days. Roadside signage will advise of any changes. There will be some noise associated with these works. Every effort will be made to complete the noisiest works by 11 pm each night.

To complete these works as quickly as possible, the northbound lanes of Northbourne Avenue between Macarthur Avenue and Mouat Street will be closed to all traffic during the nightworks. Detour signage will be in place and all road users are asked to follow directions of the signage and traffic controllers.

Following these works, the following changed traffic arrangements will remain in place:

  • between the hours of 6 am and 3 pm: one lane of traffic will be open
  • between the hours of 3 pm and 6 am: two lanes of traffic will be open.

The road resurfacing will complete major construction works on this project. Temporary line marking will be completed as part of the nightworks with the formal line marking to be carried out from Tuesday 6 October 2020 as dayworks.

Murdoch Street will remain closed in both directions between Goodwin Street and Northbourne Avenue. Access will be maintained for residents of the street and construction vehicles only.

Effects on pedestrians and cyclists

During these nightworks, all pedestrian crossings (both signalised and unsignalised) will be closed. Pedestrians and cyclists are asked to please follow the instructions of detour signage and traffic controllers when crossing Northbourne Avenue.

The on-road cycle lane will also be resurfaced during the nightworks. The closure of Northbourne Avenue between Macarthur Avenue and Mouat Street will apply to cyclists as well. Cyclists are able to use the off‑road footpath.

Effects on public transport

Bus diversions will be in place. For more information visit www.transport.act.gov.au.

All works are expected to be complete by mid-October (weather permitting).
