Updated weekend bus timetable to commence Saturday 10 October

An update to the weekend bus timetable providing more regular route services on Saturday mornings will commence from 10 October.

“There will be 210 more services on Saturdays, with local routes running hourly or better from 6am – 12pm,” Ben McHugh, Acting Deputy Director-General, Transport Canberra said.

“Additional to the weekend increases, minor changes will be made to some weekday local routes and a number of dedicated school services starting Monday 12 October. Some of these changes include timing adjustments to improve connections and better accommodate school bell times as well as the inclusion of some extra bus stops.

"Phase 1 of the weekend service increase was planned for implementation in April this year. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was placed on hold while Transport Canberra responded to the public health emergency.

“As a result, bus driver recruitment and training were temporarily put on hold and the increases to weekend services were unable to be implemented along with the broader network changes on 18 July.

“Since some restrictions were lifted and driver training could resume in June, Transport Canberra has been able to resume its driver training so that this weekend update can be reliably delivered.

“Bus driver training continues, and we are on the look-out particularly for casual drivers to help deliver weekend services. Anyone interested in some extra money on the weekends can find more information on our website.

“While we are not yet at the point where we are encouraging people back to public transport, the updates to the weekend timetable will make it easier to practise physical distancing for those who need to use it,” Mr McHugh said.
