Motorists urged to drive to conditions and to report hazards

Released 06/10/2022

With the persistent wet weather motorists are being urged to drive safely and to report any road safety issues to Fix My Street.

The ongoing wet weather is leading to challenging conditions on our roads so please drive to the conditions and respect temporary speed limits. Please also leave sufficient space between your car and the vehicle in front.

The ACT Government is allocating all available resources to identify, assess and respond to road safety hazards. Repairing potholes in wet weather is challenging as the asphalt mix doesn’t settle. Wherever possible we are applying temporary patching particularly on key arterial roads like Melrose Drive and Sulwood Drive. In other locations we are issuing warning signage to motorists.

Given the prevailing La Nina conditions we expect above average rainfall over the coming months and the ACT Government is gearing up its crews to respond to immediate safety concerns.

While the rain has not at this stage led to any significant road closures, Point Hut crossing was closed earlier today and it is likely there may be other closures including lane closures in coming days. Flooding on Naas Road also means the Namadgi Visitor Information Centre is closed until further notice.
