Transport Canberra is encouraging the community to Register to Ride to gain free travel to the Anzac Day Dawn Service and the RSL (ACT Branch) Veterans’ March at the Australian War Memorial on Monday 25 April 2022.
“Register to Ride will be free of charge and will allow Transport Canberra to better monitor and manage customer demand for bus services within the resources available. This is particularly important for special events and commemorative ceremonies like Anzac Day where demand can quickly exceed bus capacity,” Ben McHugh, Deputy Director-General, Transport Canberra and Business Services said.
Register to Ride pick-up locations for Dawn Service include Gungahlin Bus Station, Westfield Belconnen, Woden Bus Station, Tuggeranong Bus Station, with continuous loop shuttles from City Bus Station, Russell Offices and Canberra Centre. Continuous loop shuttle buses for the RSL (ACT Branch) Veterans’ March will pick-up from Russell Offices, and Canberra Centre, via the City Bus Station.
Return services for both the Dawn Service and RSL (ACT Branch) Veterans’ March will depart 20 minutes after each event. Passengers do not need to register for return travel.
“With parking at the venue limited, and road closures in place throughout the day, taking a bus or combining light rail, walking and cycling with bus travel are convenient ways to ensure those wanting to pay their respects can attend the special commemorations. The online Transport Canberra Journey Planner is available to help plan your trip,” Mr McHugh said.
Passengers are reminded that masks are mandatory for people 12 years and over on-board bus and light rail vehicles.
Passengers who wear or display their Defence Service Medals can ride on any Transport Canberra bus or light rail for free during Anzac Day with buses and light rail running to a Sunday timetable and frequency.
