Jump on board public transport to see the city light up

Released 02/03/2023

The Enlighten Festival will once again illuminate the capital and Canberrans are asked to plan ahead and rethink how they travel to and from the event.

The festival will illuminate Canberra’s landmarks from Friday 3 March to Monday 13 March 2023, with the Canberra Balloon Spectacular lifting off from Saturday 11 March to Sunday 19 March 2023.

Canberrans are asked to consider using public transport or a Park and Ride to connect with a bus or light rail service into the event.

There are also free shuttle bus services from selected locations. Alternatively, get active by walking, cycling, or scooting to the event.

Free shuttle bus service

In addition to the existing bus services, free shuttle buses (operated by CDC Canberra) will help attendees get to the festival without the hassle of parking near the venue. Shuttles will depart from bus stops at the Sydney Building, Canberra Centre, Legislative Assembly, King Edward Terrace, and Parliament House Federation Mall.

Shuttles are scheduled every 30 minutes from Friday 3 March to Monday 13 March 2023, with the first services departing at 5:00pm each day. Detailed information and a map will be available at www.enlightencanberra.com.

Changes to bus services

Due to event road closures, bus stops 3258, 3259, 3260 and 3261 in the Parliamentary Triangle will be closed. Some bus routes will be diverted. Details of impacted services and stops can be found at www.transport.act.gov.au

Regular fares apply on all Transport Canberra bus and light rail services. Patrons who do not have a MyWay card can purchase a ticket from vending machines located at all light rail stops, major bus interchanges and the Canberra Airport.

There are no changes to light rail services.

Road closures

King George Terrace and King Edward Terrace, between Parkes Place East and Parkes Place West, will be closed from 5:00 pm to 12:30 am each day from Friday 3 March to Monday 13 March 2023.
