Public library branches closed for annual planning day

Released 27/02/2024

All Libraries ACT branches including the ACT Heritage Library will be temporarily closed for an annual planning and development day on Thursday 29 February 2024. The Home Library Service and Mystery Box will also not operate on this day.

“A key focus of this year’s planning will be about what the library of the future looks like, to ensure our services reflect the growing and diverse Canberra community. This will include ways Libraries ACT can engage with and encourage the community to connect with our services, whether that be by visiting a branch or online,” acting Executive Branch Manager, Libraries ACT, Peta Harding said.

“Being a seven-day per week operation, it is the one day each year the team can come together to discuss and collaborate on future services, collections, programs, events and initiatives, as well as engage in professional development opportunities,” Ms Harding said.

All online services will still be available on the day, including searching, requesting, and renewing items online. Items can still be returned using the return chutes located outside each Libraries ACT branch.

Libraries co-located with colleges will be open to college students only and managed for the day by college staff.

“We look forward to welcoming the community back when all library services return to normal operation on Friday 1 March 2024,” Ms Harding said.

An email has been sent to active library members to advise of this closure.
