Prescribed burns in Fyshwick and Denman Prospect

Released 07/08/2025

A prescribed ecological burn in the Jerrabomberra Wetlands Nature Reserve in Fyshwick will commence today, and a prescribed hazard reduction burn in Denman Prospect will commence tomorrow, Friday 8 August, subject to suitable weather and fuel moisture conditions.

The prescribed ecological burn in the Jerrabomberra Wetlands Nature Reserve is being conducted to decrease weeds and improve the habitat for native species.

The prescribed hazard reduction burn in Denman Prospect is being conducted to reduce the fire hazard in the area.

See the location map of the burn sites.

Every effort is made to conduct burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke, but temporary smoke cover is possible and may be visible across parts of Canberra.

Fire crews will be on the ground monitoring and patrolling the prescribed burns to its conclusion.

Smoke, flame, and glowing embers may be seen at these sites, which is normal for these types of operations. The public are asked not to call emergency triple-zero unless they see any unattended fire.

Prescribed burns are an important part of the ACT’s annual Bushfire Operations Plan to enhance ecological quality, reduce the risk of bushfires and help keep Canberrans safe.

More information about prescribed hazard reduction burns is available on the Parks ACT website.
