The ACT Government has signed a Letter of Intent to work collaboratively with the Netherlands-based Global Smart Cities and Communities Coalition (GSC3) to position Canberra as a world-leading smart city.
The signing took place at the ACT Government’s Smart Cities Forum yesterday, where GSC3, ACT officials and local industry discussed best practice and exchanged ideas around building smart cities.
Director, Smart City and Regulatory Reform, Brook Dixon said Canberra is evolving as a benchmark smart city.
“We are already leading the way with initiatives like the CBRfree WiFi network, one of Australia’s largest free outdoor public WiFi networks, along with our smart parking trial and smart partnerships with the Canberra Innovation Network and Data 61.
“GSC3 is a not-for-profit group based in the Netherlands that partners with cities, the innovation sector, businesses and others to create a network of smart cities. By signing the Letter of Intent today, the ACT Government is committing to collaborate with GSC3 as we continue to make Canberra one of the world’s smartest, most liveable and most innovative cities,” Mr Dixon said.
GSC3 Chair Mr Bram Reinder said Canberra joins a global network of cities and communities that are looking to accelerate their smart city agendas and connect global knowledge to help solve local problems.
“One of the most important challenges for smart cities and communities is working together and sharing best practice. This is made possible through events such as the ACT Government’s Smart City Forum.”
