Prescribed burns today at Blackies Hill and Franklin

Released 22/03/2022

The ACT Parks and Conservation Service wishes to advise that, subject to suitable weather and fuel moisture conditions, prescribed burns will be conducted today at Blackies Hill and Franklin

The 4 ha burn at Blackies Hill west of Denman Prospect is being conducted to reduce the risk of fire.

The 1 ha ecological burn at Mulanggari Grassland Nature Reserve (Franklin) that began yesterday will also continue today.

See the location map of the burn site.

Experienced ACT Parks and Conservation fire managers will conduct and oversee the burning operation. Every effort is made to conduct burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke, but temporary smoke cover is possible and may be visible across parts of Canberra.

ACT Parks and Conservation will be taking appropriate COVID-19 precautions, such as physical distancing and hygiene requirements.

As part of managing the prescribed burn to its conclusion, a buffer zone of up to 20 metres will be created around the complete perimeter of each prescribed burn.

You can also find more information about upcoming burns by following @ACTParks on Facebook.
