Raised dust levels expected in Canberra this afternoon

Released 26/11/2019

Raised dust levels are expected this afternoon, with the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting strong winds for the ACT.

With current levels, most people will not experience any health impact. However, people who are more sensitive to dust in the air, particularly those with asthma and other heart or lung conditions, should be aware and take precautions. This includes taking medication as prescribed by their doctor, limiting time spent outdoors and avoiding vigorous exercise.

People can monitor air quality across the ACT via the ACT Health website.

The Health Directorate will continue to monitor levels. Further public health advice will be issued if needed.

At this time conditions are expected to start to ease in the early evening.

For further information on minimising the health impacts of dust, refer to our factsheet.
