Southquay East DA open for consultation

Released 05/05/2017

The Development Application for the Estate Development Plan for the new Southquay East development in Tuggeranong is now open for public comment.

The Land Development Agency recently undertook a number of pre-DA consultation events including a presentation to the Tuggeranong Community Council and drop-in sessions at the Tuggeranong Hyperdome and the Lanyon Marketplace.

Located along the shores of Lake Tuggeranong, Southquay Greenway is Canberra’s newest waterfront precinct.

Construction of the first stage of Southquay Greenway, on the western side of the lake, is progressing well and when completed will be a major boost to the life and vibrancy of the Tuggeranong Town Centre.

The DA open now for consultation is for the next stage, on the eastern side of the lake, which will consist of four blocks of land and is scheduled for sale later this year.

A new signalised intersection will be required on Drakeford Drive to allow safe access in and out of the Southquay East estate.

Development will also include a shared path on the lakefront to complete the path network around Lake Tuggeranong and some landscaped areas to complement the surrounding environment.

The eastern site, which will have up to 212 dwellings, was identified as a future part of the development during planning for Southquay Greenway between 2010 and 2012.

Once complete, the precinct on both sides of the lake will have about 1,000 dwellings and more than 3,000 square metres of commercial space in the heart of Tuggeranong.

The LDA will continue to provide information and project updates to the Tuggeranong Community Council.
