ACT Budget: Turbo charging our economic recovery

Through the 2021-22 ACT Budget, the Government will be investing hundreds of millions of dollars to support our city’s economic recovery by creating and protecting thousands of good, secure jobs.

This Budget delivers record investments in our health system, with more than half a billion dollars in additional funding to employ more nurses and midwives, increase access to mental health services and grow the number of intensive care and emergency beds.

The impacts of COVID-19 have been widespread and an additional $75 million has been provided to support those that need is most.

With 250 projects and 14 ongoing programs of work already underway, the $5 billion infrastructure pipeline outlined in this Budget is the largest in the history of the ACT, protecting more than 15,300 construction jobs and creating more across the Territory for years to come.

It also includes significant suburban infrastructure projects to make Canberra’s suburbs even better- with upgraded local shopping centres, more new playgrounds and dog parks and better bike paths and footpaths.

The ACT’s world leading climate action agenda will continue, with more than $70 million in additional investments to protect Canberra’s unique environment.  We’ve opened the $150 million Sustainable Household Scheme to all eligible households, so that more and more Canberrans can share in the benefits of a zero-net emissions future.

Our strong economic foundations, achieved through increased and efficient expenditure, regulatory and tax reforms, and continued support for local jobs and vulnerable Canberrans, have placed the Territory in the position to be able to respond and recover from this outbreak.

It is a position from which we can grow strongly again.

Today’s Budget is another step towards coming out of this difficult time stronger, together.
