Check In CBR to expand to retail and transport

Released 01/07/2021 - Joint media release

With the COVID-19 situation rapidly evolving across the country, the ACT Government is taking extra steps to support contact tracing in the Territory.

The Check In CBR app will be required in all retail settings, public transport and taxi and rideshare, in the same way it is already mandatory for restricted businesses.

The roll out of the new requirement is commencing today and retail settings and public transport services will have until 12 noon on 15 July 2021 to implement the new requirements.

This additional measure will ensure our contact tracing teams have access to the best available data to quickly and effectively contact any individual who may have been exposed.

Retail settings include supermarkets, petrol stations, takeaway services, clothing stores and department stores.

Transport services include buses, light rail, taxis, uber and other rideshare services.

Across the country, we are seeing the emergence of more transmissible variants of COVID-19. Widespread use of contact tracing apps has been critical for the rapid response to community transmission in other jurisdictions.

From 11.59pm tonight, the 15-minute minimum period will also be removed across all settings using Check In CBR.

People aged 16 years and older must check in upon entry,  regardless of how long you are planning on spending in a venue.

Over the next two weeks, the ACT Government will be providing support and information to help businesses and the community to adapt to this change.

Check In CBR app is currently being used by over 10,000 businesses and venues across the ACT. Since its launch, the app has been downloaded more than 815,000 times with 18.32 million check ins.

Canberrans have responded incredibly well to new public health directions requiring the use of face masks.

The ACT Government will continue to follow the advice of health experts and work with community partners and the business sector to ensure we are doing everything we can to protect the health and safety of our community.
