The ACT has the lowest unemployment rate in the country at 2.7%, highlighting the strength of our local economy.
Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Labour force data for the month of August also shows that the ACT’s participation rate increased, with over 236,000 Canberrans in employment.
Our priority throughout the tough economic conditions we have faced in recent years was to protect and create local jobs.
With the ACT continuing to have effective full employment, the Government is focused on creating jobs as we work towards our target of 250,000 jobs by 2025.
The ACT Government will also be working collaboratively with the Federal Government on identified areas of skills shortages, developing strategies to ensure we continue to be the nation's hub for the jobs of the future.
The recent ACT Budget will create more jobs than ever before. We delivered on our commitment to hire 400 nurses and health professionals two years ahead of schedule, and our pipeline of infrastructure projects is supporting thousands of local construction jobs over the coming decade.
Today’s labour force data follows the release of the national accounts from the ABS which shows that the ACT has experienced 32 consecutive years of economic growth.
Our strong local economy is expected to continue to grow at around 3 per cent per annum over the coming years, supported by our growing population, employment and wages growth and the Government’s Infrastructure Investment Program.
