Canberrans invited to shape future of City Hill park and civic cultural district

Released 13/02/2024

The ACT Government has today launched a six-week consultation to gather community ideas on how to make City Hill park a more welcoming, comfortable and engaging public space.

From today until 25 March, the community is invited to have their say the historic site by drawing or describing their ideas.

Community members, schools and other groups are encouraged to share their ideas and shape the future of this crucial green space as the City Centre expands over the coming decade to serve thousands more residents, workers and visitors.

The initiative will culminate in a physical City Hill ideas exhibition, an opportunity to discover what has been submitted and add more ideas and visions to the exhibition.

A ‘Discover City Hill Day’ will also take place on 11 March and will include a First Nations Walk on Country alongside tours with experts in landscape architecture, active travel and local heritage. The physical exhibition showcasing the ideas from the community will be open at Civic Library from 9 to 25 March.

To share your drawing or ideas on the future of City Hill park or to have your say on the Canberra Civic and Cultural District concept, go to: www.yoursay.act.gov.au/cityhill.

Quotes attributable to the ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr:

This is an exciting opportunity to reimagine City Hill as a city park befitting of its significant location.

Canberrans of all ages are encouraged to share their ideas on how this underutilised site could be turned into a more interesting and engaging public space.

The consultation will help inform the future of City Hill and the Canberra Civic and Cultural District and our next steps, this includes better understanding the park’s role as a centrepiece between the evolving Acton Waterfront, the Canberra Theatre Centre redevelopment and connecting light rail.

I look forward to seeing what the community comes up with.
