Businesses jumping on board ChooseCBR

Released 02/12/2020

More than 15,000 Canberrans have signed up for the ChooseCBR digital discount voucher initiative. A great range of local businesses across Canberra are registered and there is still time to sign up.

Some of the businesses that have jumped on board so far include Forrest Hotel and Apartments, a Bite to Eat in Chifley, Belluci's in Manuka & Woden, Frugii in Braddon, the Pedlar in Campbell, Quizzic Alley in Fyshwick, the Belco Arts Centre, Mels Massage in Lyneham, Gungahlin Lakes Golf Pro Shop, Metaphysica in Mitchell and Limelight Cinemas in Greenway.

Minister for Business and Better Regulation Tara Cheyne said it was great to have a broad range of businesses on board and encouraged other eligible businesses to apply as soon as possible.

"ChooseCBR is being trialled from 9 to 21 December. We know that for every $1 of government spending through ChooseCBR, businesses will benefit between $4 and $6. So businesses that are involved have a real opportunity to get a boost in the lead up to the holiday period.

"With more than 15,000 people eager to use their ChooseCBR vouchers at local businesses so far, this is a great way to help Canberrans choose local.

"Visitors to Canberra are also able to sign up to the scheme to take advantage of the vouchers.

"Applications can take up to five days to be processed, so I would urge any businesses thinking about applying to do so as soon as possible so they can start accepting vouchers from day one on 9 December."

Minister Cheyne said the ACT Government will trial the ChooseCBR program with an initial $500,000 worth of discounts.

To be able to participate, businesses must:

  1. Have a physical shopfront in the ACT
  2. Have received JobKeeper payments during 2020
  3. Be in the retail, tourism and accommodation, arts and recreation, personal services and hospitality sectors (as per ANZSIC codes)
  4. Have less than $10 million in turnover per annum

"Following the trial of ChooseCBR in December, we will evaluate the program with the intention of a full rollout next year. The business eligibility criteria as well as uptake across different sectors will be assessed as part of the evaluation."

Participating businesses are listed in the ChooseCBR directory.
