ACT Government welcomes launch of National Anti-Racism Framework plan

The ACT Government has welcomed the launch of Race Discrimination Commissioner Chin Tan’s plan to establish a National Anti-Racism Framework.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs Tara Cheyne said the ACT Government has been calling on the Federal Government to establish a national anti-discrimination strategy for a number of years.

“Our commitment to advocating for a national strategy is reflected in the Parliamentary and Governing Agreement. We welcome Commissioner Tan beginning this work,” Minister Cheyne said.

“It’s unacceptable that racism not only persists in Australia but that racist incidents have been rising. This work is not just timely, it’s essential,” she said.

Minister Cheyne will be attending a virtual roundtable discussion with state and territory multicultural affairs ministers tomorrow and is looking forward to discussing the proposed framework.
