With the National Multicultural Festival returning in 2022 for its 25th anniversary celebration, grant applications are now open for community organisations to be part of the Festival to highlight their cultural heritage and traditions.
The community grant program provides funding to community organisations to participate, celebrate, and showcase their respective cultural traditions and heritage, through language, music, dance, cultural displays and food.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs Tara Cheyne is encouraging those community organisations who haven’t previously considered being involved in the Festival to apply for a grant.
“To help mark the occasion, the grant funding available of $177,560 is larger than previous years. We are creating an even more exciting and diverse program for 2022 so this is a great opportunity for even more organisations to participate, celebrate, and showcase their cultural traditions, languages and heritage,” said Minister Cheyne.
Previous recipients have used their funding towards a wide range of projects including musical performances, poetry recitals, cultural storytelling, children’s and folk-dance performances and the purchase of culturally specific musical instruments, banners and other materials.
In recognition of the 25th anniversary of the Festival, and based on feedback from the community, there have been some adjustments to the funding guidelines. This includes the addition of categories for parade participation and cultural showcase creation, as well as the inclusion of funding for the development of digital content to share our city’s multicultural migration stories.
There are three funding categories:
- Cultural Activities: performances or activities that promote cultural traditions and heritage, or the creation of digital content to share migration stories on the National Multicultural Festival’s website
- Cultural Showcase: coordinated entertainment programs that highlight cultural heritage and traditions
- Parade Participation: sharing cultural diversity through one of the Festival’s most popular draw cards, from costumed dancers to marching bands
To support community organisations to submit strong applications, the National Multicultural Festival team will host community grant workshops on 28 July and 18 August.
