The ACT Government is stepping up community and business engagement on light rail to Woden, with the launch of a new virtual engagement room to provide a hub for information and consultation.
“Light rail to Woden is Canberra’s biggest ever infrastructure build, creating over 6,000 jobs and helping to shape our city’s transport future. So we want to involve Canberrans in an ongoing conversation about how we deliver it,” said Minister for Transport and City Services Chris Steel.
“We will be consulting on a wide range of topics as the project takes shape – including issues like the environmental, community and heritage impacts; detailed design elements like stops and intersections; and the community’s priorities for creating vibrant new places and spaces along the route.
“The new website and virtual engagement room will make it easy and convenient for people to follow the latest project developments and have a say in shaping this key stage of Canberra’s future light rail network,” said Minister Steel.
Light rail will help make Canberra a more connected, sustainable and vibrant city. Stage 2 to Woden will provide more convenient and reliable transport options for people on the southside, help prevent future traffic gridlock and cut transport emissions for a cleaner environment.
In addition to participating in consultation on the delivery of light rail to Woden, Canberrans can also visit the site to find out more about all aspects of the project and its delivery milestones.
New visualisations will help Canberrans gain a better understanding of how the first section of this project will look, and how it will interact with car, bus, cyclist and pedestrian movements in one of the busiest parts of the city.
The new virtual engagement tool will support face-to-face engagement activities which are also underway with businesses and residents in the city precinct.
This information will form part of various evaluations, environmental assessments and other project documentation being prepared ahead of the submission of planning and works approvals later this year.
“I encourage Canberrans to stay informed on the project through the new virtual engagement room, sign up for project updates via website and take the opportunity to have a say in shaping light rail to Woden,” Minister Steel said.
Several light rail information sessions will be held in the city from mid-July. Dates and details will be available in mid-June on the light rail website.
Light rail to Woden is part of the ACT Government’s $14 billion Infrastructure Plan and contributes to our commitment to grow Canberra’s employment base to 250,000 jobs by 2025.
Building light rail to Woden is a Parliamentary Agreement item.
The first stage of light rail to Woden – City to Commonwealth Park is jointly funded by the ACT and Australian Governments.
