Three up-and-coming Canberra architecture students have been awarded the 2021 Alastair Swayn Internship, which was established to honour Mr Swayn’s contribution to the ACT.
Minister for Planning and Land Management Mick Gentleman congratulated University of Canberra Masters of Architecture students Daniel Sandford, Marco Torbarian and Cassidy Baas for their successful applications.
“The students will undertake a research assignment and receive mentorship from ACT Government Architect Catherine Townsend. This will support them as they investigate topics related to the physical, environmental and social effects of growth in Canberra,” Minister Gentleman said.
“Each of them will also receive a $2,500 research grant from the Alastair Swayn Foundation on assignment completion, which includes the opportunity for publication.
“Professor Fellow Alastair Swayn was the first ACT Government Architect and founding partner of the multi-award-winning architectural practice Daryl Jackson Alastair Swayn.
“After he passed away in 2016, the ACT Government committed to support the internship program to support young, emerging architects in honour of Alastair’s many contributions.
“I look forward to seeing the research and assignments that come from this rewarding internship.”
The Alastair Swayn Internship Program is a joint initiative among the ACT Government, University of Canberra and the Alastair Swayn Foundation.
