The ACT is participating in the National Firearms Amnesty to help remove unregistered guns from the community and keep Canberrans safe.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services Mick Gentleman encouraged anyone in possession of unregistered or illegal firearms to turn them in during the amnesty period.
“Removing firearms from your home if they’re not used anymore can help keep them out of the hands of criminals,” Minister Gentleman said.
“The firearms amnesty is another way we helping make Canberra safer by removing unwanted guns from the community.
"Please hand in your unregistered or illegal firearms guns now to avoid prosecution and help ensure that Canberra remains a safe place.
“During the amnesty period, those in possession of unlawful or unregistered firearms and gun components can turn the weapons over to police without penalty.”
The National Firearm Amnesty surrender location in the ACT is the ACT Policing Firearms Registry at the Exhibition Management Centre at 86 Vicars Street, Mitchell.
