Released 21/05/2021

Twenty-two new custodial correctional officers have joined ACT  Corrective Services.

Minister for  Corrections Mick Gentleman congratulated and welcomed the new recruits to ACT  Corrective Services.

“Our corrections  officers are an integral part of the criminal justice system and help keep the  Canberra community safe,” Minister Gentleman said.

“We are hiring more  officers to support our staff in their important work and relieve pressure on  current staff, who I know are working very hard.

“The 22 graduates  have undertaken extensive training to prepare them for the challenges of  working within a correctional environment each day.

“They were selected  from over 310 applicants through a stringent selection process and should each  feel proud of how far they have come.

“The ACT Government  is committed to ensuring corrections staff are trained and supported to perform  their roles safely and effectively.

“Our Blueprint for  Change committee is identifying more opportunities to deliver training, update  policies and review rostering practices to ensure staff wellbeing.”
