Nominations open for Rotary emergency services awards

Released 07/04/2021

The Rotary Clubs of the ACT have opened nominations for the 2021 ACT Rotary Emergency Services Community Awards.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Mick Gentleman called for nominations from the Canberra community to recognise the invaluable efforts of our emergency services.

“These awards recognise our emergency service personnel who have gone above and beyond the call of duty and epitomise the Rotary motto of ‘Service above Self’,” Minister Gentleman said.

“They acknowledge a person’s commitment in their role and how actively they contribute to their community in their own time.

“Our emergency services have served the ACT diligently in the past 18 months through bushfires, grass fires, smoke haze, floods and hailstorms.

“This year marks 100 years of Rotary in Australia is the third time the Rotary Clubs of the ACT has hosted a Canberra-focused event to celebrate our emergency services personnel.”

ACT Emergency Services Agency (ACTESA) Commissioner Georgeina Whelan said these awards reflected the hard work our emergency services personnel have given to both ACT and our neighbouring states.

“Our emergency services personnel have worked tirelessly to protect the lives and property both in the ACT and on deployment interstate,” Commissioner Whelan said.

“I would like to express my gratitude for the ongoing commitment and dedication our members provide for their community.”

Members from all ESA’s operational services, as well as enabling services, are eligible to be nominated for the awards.

Nominations can be made online, for more information visit the RESCA website www.rotaryescawards.org.au.
