For the third year in a row ACT Fire & Rescue (ACTF&R) will take part in ‘Ainslie to Everest’, to raise much needed funds for Lifeline Canberra.
This annual event sees firefighters climb the elevation of Mount Everest on the Mount Ainslie trail with heavy breathing apparatus on their backs.
With this year’s event being held on Saturday, 26 October 2024, ACTF&R encourages the community to get behind them and donate to Lifeline Canberra, to support them in this gruelling endeavour.
Donations can be made by visiting www.esa.act.gov.au/AinslieToEverest.
Quotes attributed to Minister for Fire and Emergency Services, Mick Gentleman:
“In my time as Minister I have seen the profound impact that both ACTF&R and Lifeline have on our Canberra community. They are both there to help others in what can be some challenging times for those that require their services.
“I am extremely proud of our ACTF&R firefighters for once again showing their commitment and willingness to helping those in need, no matter the challenge.”
Quotes attributed to ACTF&R A/g Chief Officer, Glenn Brewer:
“Last year our firefighters raised almost $60,000 for Lifeline Canberra. Although this is a great figure, this year we want to beat it, and with the help of our Canberra community, we know that this is possible.
“However, in addition to raising funds, we also want to utilise this event to shine a light on the importance of mental health.
“Our firefighters not only see the impacts that mental health can have on the community, but they can experience it themselves too. Being a firefighter is both physically and mentally challenging and that is why we are passionate about supporting organisations such as Lifeline.”
Quotes attributed to Lifeline Canberra CEO, Carrie-Anne Leeson
“Lifeline Canberra and the ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) have worked together for decades to ensure our community is supported both emotionally and physically. We have a deep respect for the teams and volunteers in both organisations, it’s wonderful to collaborate outside of our 24/7 services.
“We are deeply grateful to the ESA and ACTF&R for again holding this event in 2024 to ensure that no one needs to face their darkest moments alone. The Ainslie to Everest Challenge not only allows us to raise vital funds for the crisis support phone room, but it also opens up the conversation surrounding mental health.”
