A training area for realistic rescue simulations, open-cage lockers for equipment ventilation, and an upgraded substation to ensure reliable power supply are some of the unique features of the new Mitchell emergency services precinct.
Designed following extensive consultation, the $5.37 million refurbished facility for the ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) and ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) highlights the ACT Government’s commitment to investing in critical infrastructure to enhance community safety.
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services Marisa Paterson inspected the facility this morning, also attending a breakfast with ACTRFS and ACTSES staff and volunteers, who began occupying the facility last month.
“The safety and well-being of Canberrans are strengthened by investments in our emergency services,” said Minister Paterson.
“This new facility in Mitchell is a crucial step in ensuring our emergency responders are equipped with the infrastructure needed to serve our growing community reliably and efficiently.
“Our emergency services personnel provide an invaluable service to Canberrans year-round. The Mitchell facility will support them to continue this important work to the highest standard.”
Among the building’s highlights is a training roof installation featuring a range of different surfaces, anchor points and removable windows that facilitate diverse working-at-heights exercises.
The Mitchell facility’s construction project was completed in September, three months ahead of schedule. The precinct is a key infrastructure project in the government’s broader plan to increase the ACT emergency services’ operational capacity in the fast-growing Gungahlin region.
Quote attributable to Wayne Phillips, Commissioner of ACT Emergency Services Agency:
