Canberra Potters celebrates 50 years with new facilities and major exhibition

Released 06/11/2025

Canberra Potters will today mark its 50th anniversary with the completion of a new kiln shed at Watson Arts Centre and the opening of its annual Members’ Exhibition, Canberra’s leading showcase of ceramic art.

The ACT Government provided infrastructure funding to support the kiln shed project, enabling Canberra Potters to expand its capacity to deliver hands-on education and better support ceramic artists and educators.

Each year, Canberra Potters delivers nearly 40,000 hours of learning programs to more than 2,000 students and professionals, welcomes over 10,000 exhibition visitors, and supports a membership of more than 700 artists and makers.

Minister for Business, Arts and Creative Industries, Michael Pettersson, said the investment reflects the ACT Government’s commitment to strengthening the arts sector through practical support.

“Funding for the new kiln shed has helped Canberra Potters enhance its facilities and continue delivering high-quality programs for artists, students and the broader community,” Minister Pettersson said. “This targeted support ensures our arts organisations can grow sustainably and continue making a meaningful contribution to Canberra’s cultural life.”

Canberra Potters’ 2025 Members’ Exhibition features more than 65 works created over the past year, showcasing the diversity and innovation of contemporary ceramics.

“Congratulations to all the artists exhibiting this year,” Minister Pettersson said. “The exhibition is a celebration of the creativity and skill that defines Canberra potters and the broader arts sector in the ACT.”

The exhibition is on display from 6 - 30 November 2025 at the Canberra Potters Gallery.
