Next steps for hydrotherapy in southside

Released 25/06/2021

A hydrotherapy pool in Canberra’s southside is one step closer with the ACT Government investing $250,000 to begin the initial design, planning and costing work.

An expert consultant has been engaged to begin this work for the preferred site of the Lakeside Leisure Centre facility in Tuggeranong town centre. A location at the Active Leisure Centre at the Erindale Group Centre will be examined as a second option.

Minister for Health Rachel Stephen-Smith said there were benefits to co-locating the new hydrotherapy pool with an established facility.

“Extending the chosen site will mean we can benefit from shared front-of house facilities, change rooms, car parking and plant equipment.

“We will engage with the community and stakeholders throughout this process to ensure we are delivering a modern facility that meets the needs of the community now and in the years to come.

“We’ll soon be contacting stakeholders and community members to begin the first stage of consultation. We look forward to working with all parties to provide hydrotherapy services to people in Canberra’s southside,” said Minister Stephen-Smith.

The ACT Government allocated the $250,000 through the ACT Government COVID-19 stimulus package.
