Released 15/12/2021
As part of its dedication to growing a shared understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culture and history, the ACT Government has launched its annual Reconciliation Day Grants program.
The Reconciliation Day Grants provide funding for individuals and organisations to hold meaningful events and activities in the lead-up to, during or in support of the Reconciliation Day Public Holiday on 30 May 2022.
Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs Rachel Stephen-Smith said Reconciliation Day is a significant date on the ACT calendar.
“Having this public holiday dedicated to Reconciliation provides the space for all Canberrans to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements.
“Reconciliation should be part of everyone’s story and these grants enable individuals and organisations to explore how they can promote Reconciliation in their community.”
Reconciliation Day Grants support community-organised events with a focus on:
- promoting understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in the wider community
- celebrating and raising the significance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in the wider community
- promoting understanding of past policies and historical events and their impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- delivering opportunities for children, young people and elders to be involved and have the ability to participate in community events that promote Reconciliation
- developing seminars and/or panel discussions on the importance of Reconciliation for all Australians.
Individuals or organisations can apply for a Reconciliation Day Grant up to $5,000.
Applications close at 5pm on Wednesday, 23 February 2022.
