More options for parents and babies in the new QEII day program

Released 29/06/2022

Families experiencing parenting challenges now have more flexible options for support with the start of a new day program at the Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) Family Centre.

The new day program provides access to the same high level of care as the centre’s residential program.

Minister for Health Rachel Stephen-Smith said the new day program will complement QEII’s existing services, which are run by Tresillian on behalf of the ACT Government.

“The QEII Family Centre provides a valuable and much-loved service to the Canberra community and the new day program will make that service even more accessible,” Minister Stephen-Smith said.

“Parenting young children can be very challenging and the services provided at QEII have helped generations of Canberra parents and carers.

“The addition of a day program provides access to the same health and wellbeing teams as the residential program in a flexible setting that will be more accessible for some families.”

QEII’s team of nurses, midwives, GPs and support staff work in partnership with parents and carers to increase parenting confidence and provide guidance and information on issues such as:

  • adjustment to parenting
  • breast or formula feeding
  • sleep and settling strategies
  • diet and nutrition
  • parenting multiple babies
  • toddler behaviour
  • anxiety and postnatal depression

The day program offers parents and carers up to four appointments of two-to-three hours between 9am and 3pm, Monday to Friday.

People seeking help and support with the challenges of parenting can self-refer or talk to a GP or health professional about the services offered through Tresillian Queen Elizabeth II Family Centre.
