Supporting businesses and organisations to electrify vehicle fleets

Released 04/04/2021

The new Fleet Advisory Service will provide Canberra businesses and community organisations with independent and targeted advice, and offer hands on experiences with ZEVs and associated technologies in order to guide, equip and support them to adopt these ‘greener’ vehicle options in their fleets.

The Service will:

  • provide information on current ACT Government financial incentives, which includes registration waivers and stamp duty exemptions on newly registered ZEVs;
  • assist with the development of a business case by providing fleet transition information reports specific to a business’ fleet needs; including presentation of suitable ZEV options and transition strategies;
  • provide detailed total cost of ownership comparisons; and
  • provide information on ZEV charging requirements and charger options.

“Investing in zero emissions vehicles is good for businesses and will help reduce transport emissions, which currently make up over 60% of the ACT’s emissions,” Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction Shane Rattenbury said.

“In 2020, about half of all new zero emissions vehicles purchased in the ACT were purchased for business fleets, and we would like to see more businesses and organisations take advantage of the benefits they offer. There is a significant opportunity for these groups to drive climate action efforts in the territory, while reducing the operating costs of their fleet. It’s a win-win.

“Electric vehicles are increasingly cost competitive and are cheaper to run and maintain. Together with the generous financial incentives available for purchasing zero emissions vehicles in the ACT, making the switch makes a lot of business sense.

“The Fleet Advisory Service is providing businesses and community organisations with targeted information to help them choose appropriate, more environmentally friendly vehicles for their fleets.

“Businesses and organisations can meet with an expert online or in person to receive tailored information on zero emissions vehicles, including financial benefits, total cost of ownership calculation, charging requirements, vehicle models and availability, and even support for business case development.”

Quotes attributable to David Milne, Owner of Nordic Blinds:

“The Fleet Advisory Service team have helped us to find information on the potential costs and benefits for continuing the transition to electric vehicle fleet for our business. We love the two electric vehicles we bought for our fleet. They work really well for our day-to-day business operations and are the perfect solution for getting around Canberra.

“Contrary to our expectations, range and recharging have never been an issue when on the road – as long as a little planning is done prior to bigger trips to Sydney, Melbourne and country NSW. Our EVs are definitely cheaper to run, we save around $7,000 - $9,000 per 50,000km. Apart from saving money, we are proud of the fact that our vehicle fleet no longer contributes to the pollution of the planet.”
