Funding round opens for sustainable clubs

Released 29/06/2023

Minister for Gaming Shane Rattenbury has announced the annual Diversification and Sustainability Support Fund (DSSF) Tier 2 Funding Round opened on 1 June 2023.

“Small, medium, or large clubs and club groups have until the middle of July to apply for funding of up to $250, 000 for projects and initiatives which help them generate income from sources other than gaming machines,” Minister Rattenbury said.

In the last year the Fund has supported clubs in undertaking the following projects:

  • upgrading or adding new kitchen and dining facilities
  • installing solar panels
  • improving sporting facilities and
  • construction of both a conference facility and an energy-efficient entryway with better accessibility for patrons with mobility restrictions.

Established in July 2019, this will be the fifth round of DSSF Tier 2 funding. Applications close 14 July 2023.

Applications for funding can be made by completing the form on the Justice and Community Safety website ( https://www.justice.act.gov.au/home) and emailing the application to DSSFSecretariat@act.gov.au.

Quotes attributable to Anthony Ratcliffe, Chief Executive of the Eastlake Group (previous funding recipient)

"Due to the generosity of the ACT Government providing funding assistance through the Diversification and Sustainability Support Fund, the Eastlake Group was able to install solar at each of its venues, Kingston, Calwell and Gungahlin. This would have otherwise been out of reach due to the large upfront cost and challenging economic climate.

"While the systems are relatively new, the early signs are that the solar systems installed will offset the club’s energy costs by approximately 20-25% annually. This is not an insignificant figure given the Eastlake Group is a large energy consumer."
