Three businesses have received funding as part of the ACT Government’s Business Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) Grants program to help purchase electric vehicles.
Minister for Water, Energy and Emissions Reduction Shane Rattenbury said this program provides grants of $20,000 for local businesses to incorporate ZEVs into their vehicle fleets.
“The ACT Government is providing incentives to help with the uptake of this new technology, including zero interest loans for eligible households through the Sustainable Household Scheme, and free stamp duty on new and used electric vehicle purchases in the ACT,” Minister Rattenbury said.
“In Australia we are seeing a significant increase in the type and range of electric vehicles that are available. With more vans and buses coming on the market, this grants program encourages businesses and community organisations to consider the benefits of transitioning from an old petrol or diesel fleet to a ZEV.
“There are ongoing savings to be made by transitioning fleet cars to ZEVs, thanks to reduced maintenance and cheaper refuelling, with the added benefit of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
“We know that business vehicles generally do a lot more miles than a regular family vehicle, so the savings are even greater in a commercial context.
“I am delighted to see Goodwin Aged Care Services, SEE Change, and WokItUp jumping on board and embracing this technology. They are helping to demonstrate to the rest of the community what is possible.
“Goodwin Aged Care Services purchased two 12-seat electric minibuses to replace old internal combustion engine vehicles. The two Joylong EA6 minibuses will be used everyday to help seniors socialise, exercise and stay active.
“SEE Change have purchased a Peugeot e-Expert van to support activities for their office such as delivering electric bikes and merchandise to events.
“WokItUp used their grant to purchase a Ford e-Transit that will be used to deliver supplies across their stores in the Territory.
“It is great to see these businesses have chosen to make their next choice electric and contribute to helping our city take another step towards reaching our goal to electrify.
“I encourage all Canberrans interested in buying an electric vehicle to find out about financial support that might be available to them,” said Minister Rattenbury.
