Construction Incident in Forrest Under Investigation

Released 19/09/2019

WorkSafe inspectors are investigating safety procedures at a residential construction site in Forrest following an incident involving a small crane that overturned around midday.

A telehandler (small mobile crane) was lifting a load from a large truck when the telehandler overturned. No one was injured but WorkSafe ACT inspectors attended the site to gather evidence and conduct interviews with relevant personnel. The investigation will include examination of the site’s safety procedures, whether workers were inducted into those procedures and whether the procedures were followed.

All building activity on the site has been suspended after a Non-Disturbance Notice was issued.

WorkSafe encourage all employers to place safety as their number one priority, to have adequate safety procedures in place and to make sure all workers are aware of these procedures and follow them.

Employers are encouraged not to rush work leading up to the end of the year shut-down.

The WorkSafe investigation will continue.
