CBR Sport Awards winners announced

Canberra's top athletes, teams and those who contribute to community sport have been recognised today for their outstanding achievements at the virtual 2020 CBR Sport Awards.

Canberrans have a great passion for sport and are really connected to local elite athletes and teams.

These awards are one way to say thank you to those who inspire the next generation and the people in the community that help shape Canberra's sporting culture.

The impressive group of finalists demonstrates the strength of the sporting sector and they should be proud of their achievements and contributions.

A big virtual congratulations to the following winners who have shown excellence through their sporting achievements and supporting our community.

  • Athlete of the Year – Women's Sport– Laura Peel (Snowsport)
  • Athlete of the Year – Men's Sport- Jack Wighton (Rugby League)
  • Athlete of the Year – Para Sport– Vanessa Low (Athletics)
  • Team of the Year – Joint Winners - UC Capitals (Basketball) and ACT Brumbies (Rugby Union)
  • Outstanding Service to SportJoint Winners – Nick Hunter (Rowing), Lorraine Wuth (Swimming) and Rosanna Horn (Table Tennis)
  • Rising Star-Chloe Bateup (Triathlon)
  • Minister's Award – Inclusion – Gungahlin Jets Netball Club for the Jets Shooting Stars Program
  • Minister's Award – Innovation – Orienteering ACT for COVID return to play
