Dragon boat facility one step closer

Released 11/06/2021

A new permanent home for dragon boating at Grevillea Park on Lake Burley Griffin is one step closer today with the contract for the design of the facility awarded to Cox Architects.

The ACT Government committed funding of $400,000 towards the design of the facility in the 2020‑21 Budget earlier this year, which forms part of our $1.7 million election commitment for a new home for dragon boating.

Work will commence on the design of the new facility in coming weeks.

Once built, the facility would include new boat storage, training room, event administration and change rooms.

The facility will support growth opportunities for Dragon Boat ACT, which boasts more than 600 members, 70 per cent of which are female.

It is great to be supporting dragon boating in the ACT, which is one of Canberra’s largest water-based sports, and an increasingly popular activity for women and people of all ages.

The new facility will allow Dragon Boat ACT to locate all its activities at East Basin, further activating this part of Lake Burley Griffin.

The ACT Government is committed to supporting a diverse range of sport and physical activity outcomes for the benefit of the Canberra community.
