Enrichment Grants awarded to young Canberra women

Released 23/08/2021

The latest round of Audrey Fagan Enrichment Grants have been awarded to young Canberra women to progress gender equality in the ACT.

Each year the ACT Government provides a pool of $10,000 for the Audrey Fagan Young Women’s Enrichment Grants to support young women.

Minister for Women Yvette Berry said these grants aim to increase women's participation in decision-making and leadership roles now and into the future.

“It’s great to be able to announce the recipients of the 2020 round of grants - six incredible young women who will use the funding to pursue their areas of interest,” Minister Berry said.

“Congratulations to all grant recipients, I look forward to hearing about these young women’s achievements.”

Habibat Ogunbanwo is a young woman with a dream of qualifying for the Australian Olympic swimming team; she will use her grant to train for and attend swimming trials in South Australia, and to raise the profile of the sport amongst women from migrant and Muslim communities;

Orli Baumgart wants to establish a business to make and sell hand-dyed artisan wool yarns, sourcing wool from local mills and investing the proceeds to support LGBTIQ+ young people;

Lochana Radaliyagoda will use the grant to support the development and publishing of a children’s picture book to teach young people about gender equality;

Tori Scrivener aims to develop her passion for horse riding and dressage;

Emily Hyde will use the funding to develop a supportive and resourced space for young women to develop their interest in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) fields by establishing a Girls STEM Club, complete with 3D printer; and

Ananya Ravi’s grant will fund a 10-day residential program at the National Youth Science Forum; she hopes to improve the representation of young women in STEM.
