Gold Creek School to expand for senior students

Released 21/06/2021

Gold Creek School’s expansion has kicked off with a smoking ceremony to cleanse the site for the school’s new senior student learning area, which will be ready for the start of Term 1, 2022.

The ACT Government aims to ensure that every Canberra child has access to a great local school close to home, which is why the ACT Government has been expanding schools in Gungahlin, the inner north, and the inner south with permanent and temporary infrastructure, providing more places for public school students.

The expansion of the Gold Creek Senior School will accommodate an additional 200 students, raising the overall capacity to a little over 1,000 for the beginning of the 2022 year.

This project is being delivered by Rork Projects as part of the ACT Government’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Procurement Policy (ATSIPP) to support increased employment and economic participation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Canberra Region.

The expansion will deliver a mixture of contemporary learning areas ranging from large studios, adaptable learning spaces and smaller quiet spaces, all of which are connected to the outdoors and integrated to the existing school buildings. It will also include a new staff workspace, meeting rooms and amenities for staff and students, and bicycle and car park upgrades.

The project will provide accessible and sustainable facilities and school infrastructure that support high quality education in this rapidly growing city.
