Grants open to help sports upgrade facilities

Released 19/04/2021

Sporting organisations across Canberra can now apply for support to upgrade their facilities to help increase community access and participation opportunities through the Capital Assistance Program.

Sporting clubs and facilities can apply for funding up to $100,000 to support capital investment, such new LED lighting, solar power systems, upgrades to storage facilities or female friendly bathroom renovations.

Upgrades including female-friendly amenities is of particular issue for a number of clubs and upgrading facilities to meet the needs of women and girls is one really simple way to vastly improve female participation in sport.

The ACT Government is committed to removing barriers to participation for women. Since establishing the Female Friendly Change Rooms @ Sporting Facilities guidelines, more than 20 sporting and recreation facilities across the Territory have been upgraded to make them a welcoming place for all.

The Capital Assistance Program is also a great opportunity for clubs to improve the water and energy efficiency of their facilities.

Upgrading local sporting facilities is an important way to increase participation in sport and recreation and to help clubs keep up with Canberra's active community.

Applications for the Capital Assistance Program are now open and close on 10 May 2021.
