A new project initiated by the ACT Government will deliver on the commitment made under the ACT Women’s Plan to make construction workplaces more inclusive.
The Industry Coordination Project focuses on the retention of women in the industry by improving the male-dominated culture of the construction industry and building respectful relationships in the workplace. The project will work with both employees and employers to better understand the factors that are impacting inclusion and participation in the construction industry and the tools required to address them.
The CFMEU has been selected through a competitive process to develop the Industry Coordination Project. A dedicated industry coordination officer will be employed to design and implement the project and will provide an important connection between the ACT Government and the industry to support and inform government initiatives to increase women’s participation in the construction industry.
Minister for Women Yvette Berry said “All workplaces have a responsibility to foster and promote gender equality. This will continue to be a challenge in industries that are traditionally male‑dominated, and this initiative is an important step in the right direction to driving long-term change.”
