Young Canberrans awarded for excellence

Released 01/04/2021

Congratulations to Mx Kat Reed who has been awarded the 2021 Young Canberra Citizen of the Year for excellence across community services, the arts, and in particular, service to the LGBTIQ+ community.

Mx Reed’s work as the Chief Executive Officer, Women with Disabilities ACT (WWDACT) has demonstrated that young people can excel in high level executive roles in the Canberra community sector.

Mx Reed’s openness regarding their disability, being part of the LGBTIQ+ community and their background as a biracial person has created positive representation and shown that other young people like them can excel in leadership roles.

The Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Awards, now in its 32nd year, recognise individuals and groups of young people aged between 12 and 25 years who have made a significant contribution through their personal endeavours or who have been actively involved in the ACT community.
