The ACT Government has released a new strategy to continue investment into new and renewed community sports infrastructure to support our city’s future.
Minister for Sport and Recreation Yvette Berry said sport plays an integral role in the life of Canberrans.
“We know that Canberrans enjoy being active, and having access to quality sports infrastructure – from mountain bike trails and swimming pools through to suburban ovals and playing fields, is what makes Canebrra one of the most liveable cities in the world ,” said Minister Berry.
“The CBR Next Move strategy has been developed following extensive sector consultation, which has identified action areas like governance, policies, partnerships and workforce development.”
“The strategy will underpin ACT Government decisions to 2028 – such as where we focus, where we invest and those areas in which we can pursue partnership opportunities.”
The strategy identifies four strategic pillars including:
- building sector capability and capacity
- supporting pathways for long-term participation and performance
- investing in facilities, infrastructure and open space to enable participation
- creating positive participation environments that are welcoming and inclusive.
Minister Berry said much progress has been made across the four strategic pillars as outlined in the latest State of Play report, also released today.
“The State of Play report highlights the huge range of projects that have recently been completed or are ongoing, as well as participation and performance indicators that highlight how active our community continues to be,” said Minister Berry.
“In the coming months, there will be further consultation with the sector to consider how the new strategy can help identify sporting infrastructure priorities for the ACT.
“By working together we can ensure that our sport and active recreation sector is responsive and that we can continue to deliver a huge range of benefits for Canberra’s very active community for many years to come,” said Minister Berry.
