ACT public school enrolments from preschool to year 12 open today for the 2024 school year. This includes the new high school in East Gungahlin, open to residents of Kenny, Throsby and specific areas of Lyneham.
Canberra’s newest high school in East Gungahlin is also open to residents of Harrison, Franklin, Gungahlin, Mitchell, Watson and Downer, as well as parts of Ngunnawal and Forde, due to a one-way shared priority enrolment area (PEA). Residents in these suburbs have the choice of enrolling in their existing PEA high schools or the new high school in East Gungahlin.
Enrolling in a new school is an important milestone in every child’s life, and being among the first students in a brand-new school community while it is being established is a particularly exciting opportunity.
If you apply by 2 June, you will get an offer from 24 July 2023 and can start planning for your child’s 2024 school year.
Every ACT public school is a great school, and there’s a guaranteed place for every child in their local school from kindergarten to year 12 to learn, grow and reach their potential.
Parents and carers are encouraged to visit the Education Directorate website for more information and learn more about what their local public school offers by viewing their school website. Some schools will be holding information sessions in the coming weeks.
The ACT Government is committed to building, expanding and upgrading public schools across Canberra. Upgrades are improving facilities and supporting the delivery of inclusive and equitable education. Works also include new learning spaces and wet areas, bike sheds, outdoor shade areas and improvements to playgrounds.
Preschool is an important element of children’s early learning. All four-year-olds in Canberra are guaranteed 15 hours of preschool a week in the ACT. If your child turns four on or before 30 April 2024, they are eligible for preschool next year.
Preschool to year 12 enrolment key dates:
Enrolments open 6am Wednesday 26 April 2023.
Enrol by 2 June to receive an offer from 24 July 2023 for the 2024 school year.
