Digging up half a century of history at Mt Rogers Primary School

Released 05/04/2023

In December 1990, Mount Rogers Primary School staff and students buried two time capsules in their front garden. Today, we dug up the capsules to get a glimpse into the past and celebrate the school’s 50th birthday.

The time capsules contained wonderful memories of that period, including original uniforms from 1973, past newsletters, board reports, photos, and school magazines.

Mount Rogers will be burying new time capsules at the end of the year to commemorate their 50th birthday. Every student and class will be asked to add an item in.

Mount Rogers opened in 1973; the same year our unique ACT public school system was created. And, like our ACT public schools system, many thousands of students have passed through this school and received a high-quality public education over the last 50 years.

"My congratulations go out to all the teachers, students and families who have made this school community so vibrant over the years. I look forward to hearing many more stories out of Mount Rogers in the years to come." said Minister Berry.
