The ACT’s public education system supports more than 40,000 families and the ACT Government continues to invest in making sure every public school is a great school in our city.
This week 90 public schools welcome 51,000 students back to the classroom as they begin term 1 for the new school year.
This includes Molonglo’s first high school, Evelyn Scott School senior campus, in Denman Prospect, which integrates with the existing junior campus to create a P-10 school for 1,288 students.
“I am very happy to visit the expanded Evelyn Scott School on the first day of term to welcome high school students for the first time. The new senior campus provides facilities for up to 600 year 7 to 10 students,” said Minister for Education Yvette Berry.
“The addition of the senior campus completes the $70 million school. It’s an exciting time to be part of the ACT public education system as we celebrate its 50th anniversary this year.”
The senior school campus offers indoor and outdoor learning areas and features inclusive learning environments, great outdoor learning and play areas, and secure bicycle parking and storage.
Sustainability design is at the forefront of ACT public school infrastructure and Evelyn Scott School is an example of that.
The school’s water storage tanks have a capacity of up to 330,000 litres, which significantly reduces the reliance on potable water for landscaping. The outdoor hardcourts feature 1,600m2 of nylon surface made from recycled plastics.
This state-of-the-art education facility won the ACT Master Builders Association 2022 Sustainable Commercial Project Award.
