App makes Parent Portal even easier

Released 05/12/2024

The new Parent Portal smartphone app is now available for all ACT public school families giving them more choice in how they access information from their child’s school.

The app - called Sentral for Parents - has the same functionality as the Parent Portal and follows students from kindergarten through to year 12.

Parent Portal is a secure online platform for sharing student information between ACT public schools and parents and carers.

It has been gradually rolled out across all ACT public schools throughout this year.

Minister for Education and Early Childhood Yvette Berry said Parent Portal makes it easier for families to engage with their school by housing key information on one system.

“Parents and Carers only need to sign up for the Parent Portal once,” Minister Berry said.

“Adding multiple students to the one account is quick and easy - all you need is an access key for each child’s school.”

Parents can use Parent Portal and the Sentral for Parents app to:

  • notify their school if their child is sick
  • book parent-teacher interviews
  • receive their child’s academic reports (including past reports)
  • receive their school newsletter
  • receive messages from their child’s teachers
  • see their child’s student timetable
  • get daily notices of school activities
  • update contact details, and
  • make payments.

24,405 parents and carers have registered to use Parent Portal so far, with this number expected to grow now that the Sentral for Parents app is available.

“We expect registration numbers to grow significantly once the 2025 school year starts, with new ACT public school kindergarten families registering,” Minister Berry said.

“Parents of new ACT public school students, including those starting kindergarten in 2025, will receive a registration link and access key from their school. They will need to set up an ACT Digital Account if they don’t already have one to register.
