Canberra community sporting organisations can now apply for record funding, following the ACT Government’s $1 million injection into the Sport and Recreation Investment Scheme.
Over $4 million is now available in grants for Canberra’s community sport facilities and clubs.
The grants program opens today and supports sport, recreation and community organisations in developing new and existing sporting facilities and supporting programs and initiatives which enhance sport participation.
This ensures Canberrans of all ages and abilities can stay active, healthy and engaged in community sport.
Minister for Sport and Recreation Yvette Berry said this election commitment to inject a further $1 million plays a key role in strengthening and supporting community sport in the ACT.
“Community sport is the heartbeat of Canberra, and these grants empower local clubs to create welcoming environments where people of all ages and abilities can enjoy all the benefits sport can offer.
“This investment is about more than just turf, bricks and mortar. It's about building stronger, healthier communities. By supporting inclusive and sustainable spaces for sport and recreation, we're ensuring every Canberran has the opportunity to stay active and connected."
The 2026 Sport and Recreation Investment Scheme is inviting applications for two of its programs: the Community Sport Facilities Program and the Club Enhancement Program.
The Community Sport Facilities Program provides applicants up to $1 million per year to build new facilities or upgrade existing facilities.
The Club Enhancement Program provides sport and active recreation clubs, district associations and State Sporting Organisations up to $20,000 to further develop the services and programs they provide within the Canberra community. Funding can be used to purchase equipment, training, or support improvements to club capability, capacity and accessibility.
Applications are now open and will close on 17 October 2025.
