This year the Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) is recognising the exceptional efforts of teachers moving to remote learning during the pandemic.
Teachers will receive a one-off credit of five hours towards the 20 hours of professional learning they are required to complete annually.
The five hours of professional learning will be automatically populated into a teacher’s professional learning profile in their TQI portal over the next week, and can be used for their 2021 or 2022 registration.
Minister for Education and Youth Affairs, Yvette Berry MLA understands the importance of this learning for the Canberra community.
“This year has reinforced the significant role teachers play in the lives of children and students, their families, and communities,” Ms Berry said.
“I have been hearing from teachers and their representatives, the Australian Education Union, about how they completely redesigned how they taught during remote learning. Thank you to all teachers for being such dedicated learners throughout 2021.”
TQI Board Chair, Ms Natalie Howson explains, “ACT teachers have researched, completed online tutorials, networked and collaborated to further develop the skills they needed to deliver programs that continued to meet individual student needs,”
“The regulatory framework for teachers in the ACT has sufficient flexibility to allow the TQI to acknowledge that the professional learning undertaken this year by all teachers has been extensive and should be recognised in meeting re-registration requirements.”
Megan Keogh, a nationally certified Highly Accomplished teacher describes the experiences of teachers this year.
“Our teaching workforce has emerged from the pandemic having seized opportunities for innovative and strengthened practice. I have been working alongside colleagues who have participated in, reflected upon and led professional learning in order to successfully use digital platforms to provide authentic student learning opportunities throughout 2021.”
The TQI Board includes all teacher employers, teacher unions and school leaders/teachers of both public and non-government schools.
