Government position - Environment Protection (Fossil Fuel Company Advertising) Amendment Bill

Cabinet agreed there will be no Government position on the Environment Protection (Fossil Fuel Company Advertising) Amendment Bill 2024. Greens Ministers did not support the position proposed on the Private Members Bill.
The Private Members Bill (PMB), if passed would have nil or negligible environmental impact and would have a significantly negative impact on the economic wellbeing of the Territory.
Skilled to Succeed - Draft Industry Action Plans

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Skills and Training release draft Industry Action Plans for public consultation.
It is anticipated that there will be positive wellbeing impacts across the lifelong education and learning and economy wellbeing domains.
Combined Pass – Public Sector Management Bill 2024 – Aligning ACT Public Sector fixed term contract laws with the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cwth)

Cabinet agreed the Chief Minister introduce the Public Sector Management Bill 2024 in the ACT Legislative Assembly which seeks to align ACT public sector employment laws with the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cwth).
The proposal has a positive wellbeing impact on the economy by providing those who hold a legal right to work in Australia access to more secure work in the ACT Public Sector. The proposal also strengthens the ACT as a destination of choice for people coming to Australia for work.
Government Position – PMB Crimes (Sentencing) Amendment Bill 2024

Cabinet agreed the government position on the Crimes (Sentencing) Amendment Bill 2024.
Supporting the Crimes (Sentencing) Amendment Bill 2024 engages the governance and institutions wellbeing domain, as the Bill seeks to promote community confidence in the criminal justice system, which affects the whole ACT community.
ACT Government position - Joint national response to the Disability Royal Commission

Cabinet authorised the ACT Government’s proposed positions on recommendations of the Disability Royal Commission Final Report that require joint action by the Commonwealth, states and territories.
The development of ACT Government positions for the joint national response to the Disability Royal Commission Final Report impacts the wellbeing domain of Governance and Institutions.
Birth of a Child Project

Cabinet agreed to the signing of a Letter of Agreement (LOA) between the ACT Registrar-General on behalf of the ACT Government, and Services Australia on behalf of the Australian Government, for the sharing of information through Service Australia’s Life Events Notification System for the purpose of birth registration.
Streamlining the process for registering a child's birth and accessing government services can reduce stress and anxiety for new parents, contributing to their overall well-being. By facilitating information sharing among Commonwealth, State, and Territory Governments, the proposal enhances access to essential services such as Centrelink and Medicare, improving the quality of life for individuals and families. Secondly, the process supports a cross-jurisdictional “tell us once” approach, exploring tailored support for customers experiencing vulnerability or with limited access to digital services and future integration and alignment with the digital identity ecosystem. Additionally, the transition to digital channels and the implementation of robust security measures can protect sensitive information, enhancing data privacy and security for users.
