Community benefitting from new Access Canberra website

Released 20/11/2023

Canberrans are already benefitting from the new and improved Access Canberra website that went live at the end of October.

User-experience sits at the heart of the redesign, improvements made to the website intended to support Canberrans to easily access information and digital services online.

Minister for Business and Better Regulation, Tara Cheyne, highlighted the importance of the refreshed website.

“Access Canberra is the front door for many Canberrans looking to engage and interact with the ACT Government and its many services,” Minister Cheyne said.

“With more than 15 million views and 8 million digital transactions over the last year, Access Canberra is the government’s most visited website.

“By updating the website and increasing web accessibility, we’re ensuring that all visitors, regardless of ability, have a seamless experience.”

The website has a new design, enhanced search functionality and simplified content, informed by extensive research, insights, and testing in collaboration with key user groups.

“All the content has been rewritten in plain English and we have reduced the number of individual pages on the website by around 90%. This will make it easier for people to find what they are looking for, while improving the website’s search and navigation functionality.”

The ACT Government conducted extensive user testing to ensure that the new website is easy to use. This included usability and accessibility tests with vision impaired users, as well as real-time testing with Access Canberra contact centre staff members.

“We are committed to making sure that the new Access Canberra website meets the needs of Canberrans,” said Minister Cheyne.

Since the updated website launched there have been over 307,000 views from more than 76,000 users.

Members of the community can provide feedback using the feedback form located at the bottom of every page. “This feedback is welcome as Access Canberra will continue to refine and improve the site based on user feedback and experience in the months to come,” said Minister Cheyne.
