LGBTIQA+ Inclusion

The RED Framework supports the creation of positive, respectful, supportive and fair work environments where employee differences are respected, valued and utilised to create productive and collaborative workplaces. LGBTIQA+ is respectfully being used as an umbrella term inclusive of people of diverse sex, gender, variations of sex characteristics or sexual orientation. The acronym is not intended to limit this to those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse, intersex and/or queer, and the ‘+’ sign symbolises the inclusion of people who use other terms to describe their gender and/or sexuality. Inclusion is a natural part of our journey under RED, because we know that inclusive work practices in any form, whether it be for LGBTIQA+, the culturally and linguistically diverse, or another cohort, contribute to positive cultures. We also know that diverse organisations with inclusive work practices generate creative and innovative ideas and processes, and that there are improved levels of employee engagement in such organisations. As such, it simply makes good business sense to embed inclusive practices to enable us to mature a truly adaptive, innovative and agile public service and to support us to better meet the needs of the diverse community in which we serve.

This page provides resources to managers, supervisors and employees to educate and raise awareness regarding LGBTIQA+ Inclusion, which will assist the ACTPS to develop work practices and cultures that are inclusive of LGBTIQA+ employees and LGBTIQA+ members of the wider ACT community.
